Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Vossiek with the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) was honored with the Microwave Application Award 2019 by the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society on the IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS) on June, 5th 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society counts more than 10500 members and is therefore one of the largest professional societies of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) – which in turn, is the largest professional association worldwide.

The Microwave Application Award is a prestigious award if the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society. Is is awarded once a year since 1982 to honor outstanding innovations in high frequency engineering and their successful transfer into practical applications. Prof. Vossiek is honored for his contributions in the field of wireless locating and navigation and for his achievements in the promotion of successful economical realization of innovations in the field of industrial automation and logistics.

Martin Vossiek is an inventor of almost 100 granted patents which impressively highlights the honouring and the relevance of this research. Moreover, his scientific work is documented in over 250 scientific publications and is awarded multiple times. Since 2011 Prof. Vossiek chairs the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU).
