Biomedical Photonics

Progress in medicine is enabled by technological progress in many cases. Diagnostic methods as well as medical treatment are often based on microwave and photonic technologies. These applications range from radar based imaging and magnetic resonance tomography setups to laser treatment or optical coherence tomography. Contactless millimeter wave and terahertz imaging techniques for diagnosing purposes, new antenna concepts for body arrays, new concepts of fundus cameras or biomedical optical sensors are some examples of research at the LHFT. Most of our projects rely on close cooperation with clinical or industrial partners.
