Christoph Kammel, from the Institute of Microwave and Photonics (LHFT), won a prize in the Student Paper Competition at the renowned 2023 IEEE Radar Conference. His paper, titled “MIMO Radar-Based Rotation Parameter Estimation of Non-Cooperative Space Debris Objects”, introduces a novel technique for accurately estimating the rotation parameters of space debris objects using the data of a radar system. Rotation parameter estimation is crucial for the autonomous removal of space debris from Earth’s orbit. The paper was chosen among 84 accepted student papers and presented to a panel of judges comprising professionals from industry and academia. The IEEE Radar Conference is renowned worldwide as a leading event in the radar field, encompassing civil, scientific, and defense applications and attracting a diverse international audience.
