Christoph Birkenhauer of the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics (LHFT) has won the European Microwave Association (EuMA) Student Paper Award at the IEEE International Conference on Microwaves, Communications, Antennas, Biomedical Engineering & Electronic Systems (IEEE COMCAS 2021) for the publication: Christoph Birkenhauer, Martin Vossiek, “A Novel Ultra-Broadband and Low-Cost Termination Concept Based on a Dual-Layer SIW Topology”. With the concept presented in the article, very broadband terminations can be realized in a practical way even at very high frequencies beyond 100 GHz. Such terminations are required as a basic component in many high-frequency circuits. Unlike existing realizations, this approach does not require the use of special materials or complicated fabrication steps, and it still delivers excellent functional properties. IEEE COMCAS is recognized as one of the world’s leading IEEE conferences in its field. Over 1600 attendees from 40 countries joined the conference in 2021.
