Research assistant photonic sensor technology and digital twins

In the field of photonic sensor technology and digital twins.

The ‘Photonics’ group at the LHFT works on topics including fibre optic sensor technology. As part of a cooperation project with various scientific and industrial partners, the modelling of sensor elements and sensor networks as digital twins is being investigated.

We are looking for a graduate in ‘Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology’, ‘Computational Engineering’ or ‘Information and Communication Technology’ or related study programmes to support the modelling and simulation activities as soon as possible.

Your tasks

Further development and implementation of a digital twin for optical networks

  • Modelling and simulation of various components in optical transmission and measurement systems (optical fibres, measuring devices, optical amplifiers, …)
  • Collaboration on software components for data processing, storage and visualisation
  • Web development, e.g. backend frameworks, APIs, …
  • Database development

Programming tasks as part of daily laboratory operations, e.g.

  • Development of control and evaluation scripts for measuring devices
  • Support with network and system configurations in the laboratory
  • (Web-based) applications for controlling, monitoring or displaying measurements and measurement data

Your profile

  • Very good knowledge of programming, especially in Python
  • Good knowledge of web development
  • Basic understanding of databases
  • Interest in familiarising yourself with IoT and communication protocols (e.g. MQTT, Redis, Celery or comparable technologies in combination)
  • Experience or interest in physical modelling with Python
  • Reliable, structured, independent way of working and enjoy interdisciplinary tasks between software development, simulation and laboratory work
  • Ability to work in a team
