Researcher PhD Student – Advanced RF and Microwave Circuits and Systems
The Institute of Microwaves and Photonics (LHFT) of Prof. Vossiek at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) in Germany invites applications for 4 open PhD positions in the area of “Advanced RF and Microwave Circuits and Systems” with the following topics:
- Development of novel machine learning based impedance matching and tuning concepts
- Linear and non-linear circuit design for innovative high-power impedance tuner concepts
- Ultra-broadband microwave circuits design with more than 200 GHz bandwidth
- MMIC-assembly and interconnect design for enabling future ultra-broadband measurement and test applications

Your qualifications and experience
We are seeking motivated, creative candidates, who can work in a multidisciplinary team and have knowledge in one or several of the areas is desirable:
- Above-average primary university qualification (master degree or diploma) in electrical engineering, mechatronics, physics with a focus on radio-frequency engineering
- Basic knowledge of RF circuit design tools (ADS, CST or HFSS)
- Basic knowledge in handling and operation of RF measurement equipment, such as network and spectrum analyzer and oscilloscopes
- Basic knowledge of software development (e.g. MATLAB, Python or C++)
- Good speaking and writing skills in English are required
- Knowledge of German language is desirable
- High degree of initiative and flexibility
- Independent and structured way of working
Position:
This is a full-time temporary position with the opportunity to achieve the academic degree Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.). Compensation complies with the states wage agreement for public service (TV-L). Severely disabled candidates will be preferred if equally qualified.
